Heritage Academy in Laveen is a tuition-free public charter school in Laveen, AZ, just outside of downtown Phoenix, AZ.

In addition to our excellent academics, athletics, and college preparation programs, Heritage Academy Laveen offers a robust performing arts curriculum. 

​

In the instrumental department, we have beginning band and orchestra programs, full orchestra for both junior high and high school, junior high and high school drumline, plus guitar ensemble. All scholars are required to take at least one year of music classes and are encouraged to stay in performing arts classes throughout their high school career. Varsity drumline and Symphonic Orchestra are open by audition only; all other classes are open to all scholars with instructor approval.

For vocalists, we offer both a junior high and high school choir. Vocalists are also encouraged to participate in the musical theater performances.

Our drama department has beginning and advanced classes for junior high and high school scholars. We put on five fully staged performances each year: two musicals (one for high school and one for junior high), two dramatic performances (one for high school and one for junior high), and a dinner theater murder mystery. Additionally, high school drama students present a Night of Trateau, the Trail of Legends at Halloween, and an interactive night with the community each spring.

In the dance department, we have contemporary dance classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced dancers, beginning as early as 7th grade. Advanced dancers can audition for the dance team, a group that travels and performs many times throughout the year, including at football and basketball games and pep rallies. We also offer multiple levels of ballroom and ballet classes with two performances each school year. Our scholars also run a step team that participates in community events and performances.

Our visual arts team offers junior high, high school, and advanced art in multiple media. We also have digital art, photography, and yearbook courses available to high school scholars.

 

All high school scholars enrolled in both semesters of a performing arts class are invited to attend the spring California trip. 

 

Intermediate and advanced scholars in visual art, dance, drama, choir, instrumentals, and select other programs are invited to attend the fine arts retreat in January.
